This position is based at the Oxford e-Research Centre

(OeRC, http://www.oerc. ox.ac.uk)

and within the EC FP7 ’High Performance Distributed Network Operation’ (HiPerDNO) project, which brings together researchers in electricity distribution networks, electrical engineering, and computing science from Brunel, IBM Haifa, and Oxford, as well as European energy companies (EDF, Electricite de France, Union Fenosa, Indra, Gtd, Korona, Elektro Gorenjska, and Iset).

Future electricity distribution networks with mass deployment of network equipment sensors and instrumentation, millions of smart meters, small-scale embedded generation, and responsive load will
generate vast amounts of data requiring near to real-time analysis. It is the aim of this project to develop a new generation of distribution network management systems that exploit novel near to real-time high performance computing (HPC) solution. The approach of this project is to employ cloud computing that will enable scalable data mining, feature extraction, and near to real-time state estimation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will be concerned with research and implementation of cutting edge data processing techniques within an HPC environment. The successful candidate will primarily collaborate with

Dr. Dan Olteanu of the Oxford University Computing Laboratory, (http://www.comlab. ox.ac.uk/ people/Dan. Olteanu)

who will lead the project research on uncertain data mining. It is also expected that the post-holder will closely work with the Parallel Systems position within the OeRC on this project to ensure that the implementation of their algorithms and software is optimised for performance and use of resources on the HPC systems made available.

HiPerDNO is an international collaboration; hence it is required to travel to meetings at the various partner sites for both shorter and longer durations. That includes the HiPerDNO final year
demonstrations and on-site tests.

The post-holders main duties will include:
* Undertake research and development in the area of mining uncertain data streams with the techniques to be implemented on HPC architectures;
* Collaborate closely with Dr Dan Olteanu on data management research and with the parallel systems team to optimise the efficiency of the developed algorithms and software;
* Take responsibility for dissemination of project deliverables through the project website, events, and publications;
* Publish in appropriate journals and conferences the results of developed systems and software.

Selection Criteria
Candidates will be judged on the basis of the following criteria and their applications should address each point to show how their experience and skills meet the criteria. We encourage applications at
both PhD and postdoc level.

Essential Criteria:
* A higher degree, preferably a doctorate, in a relevant subject such as Computing Science, Engineering Science, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent industrial experience;
* Knowledge/experienc e of the following:
– Detailed knowledge of data management theory and/or systems.
– Good knowledge of machine learning and/or data mining techniques.
– Good programming skills using modern languages and technologies;
* Track record of published work appropriate to your age and work experience;
* Experience of carrying out independent research/developmen t.
* Willingness to work effectively as a team member and to supervise less experienced team members, should the occasion arise.
* Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Desirable Criteria:
* Knowledge of uncertain/probabili stic data management;
* Parallel systems (including hardware), environments and computing;
* Knowledge/experienc e in power system engineering.

In 2008 "la Caixa" Foundation launched a scholarship programme to offer interdisciplinary training and research opportunities to outstanding young graduate students of any nationality to pursue a PhD project at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO).

The "la Caixa"/CNIO international PhD programme offers cross-disciplinary training in state-of-the- art basic and applied cancer research within an international scientific environment. TWO AUSTRALIAN POSTGRADUATE INDUSTRY AWARDS (PhD SCHOLARSHIPS) ON
RENEWABLE AND DISTRIBUTED POWER GENERATION (ARC LINKAGE PROJECT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG )

Two Australian Postgraduate Industry Awards (APAIs), each worth $26,669 per annum (tax free) for three-years, are available for postgraduate research towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Successful applicants will conduct research to contribute to infrastructure development for integration of renewable and distributed power generation into electricity grid systems. One APAI will conduct research on power quality aspects related to the integration of renewable and distributed power generation, and the other will carry out research on network control and protection issues associated with the integration of renewable and distributed energy resources. Candidates with undergraduate honours (Class I or II(1)) or Masters degrees by research in electrical engineering with power engineering major are invited to express their interest in applying for these awards.

1. Does not receive any sort of scholarship or funding from other parties.
2. Holds legal residence status as a college student.
3. Have interest in promoting international understanding and friendship, and is able to attend SISF meetings (meetings are held 6 times/year).
4. Does not have a parent employed in Japan.
5. Does not hold a doctorate degree.
6. Is enrolled in a program with more than 1 year left until graduation/completion (from April 2009). This restriction does not apply to doctorate program.

Scholarship for Short-Term Exchange Students: This scholarship is provided to students who are recommended by those designated universities that have secured an agreement of recommendation with the Sato International Scholarship Foundation. Scholarship as well as travel fee to Japan is provided to those students from the aforesaid countries who will study in Japan on a short term based on the agreement among universities for study exchange.

Amount of Scholarship: 100,000 yen/month

Duration of Scholarship: Over 6 months, up to 10 months; however scholarship terminates upon completion of the program.

1) Role of benthic algae in coral reef recovery processes: Research will involve field and laboratory experiments with coral larvae to study the effects of benthic algae on coral early life stages, including larval behavior, larval settlement and survival, as well as field studies on benthic algal dynamics, and settlement and post-settlement mortality of corals. Outcomes will be incorporated within an ecological model developed by other FORCE partners. The research will involve interactions with field ecologists, marine botanists and ecosystem
modellers, and will be performed in close collaboration with the Marine Botany group at the University of Bremen (www.uni-bremen. de), the Research and Management of Biodiversity Foundation CARMABI in Cura?ao (www.carmabi. org), and partners within the FORCE project.

2) Ecology of benthic cyanobacterial mats on coral reefs: Work will involve field surveys to characterize the spatio-temporal dynamics of benthic cyanobacterial blooms in relation to biotic and abiotic parameters in the environment, as well as field and laboratory experiments to investigate the controlling factors of these blooms. The study will involve a variety of experimental and state-of-the- art analytical techniques for community-, functional- and geochemical analyses. The work will be multidisciplinary, involving biology, microbiology and biogeochemistry. The research will be performed in close collaboration with the Microsensor Research group of the Max-Planck-Institut e for Marine Microbiology in Bremen (www.mpi-bremen. de), the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences MARUM (www.marum.de), the Marine Geology Department at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research in Texel (www.nioz.nl), and partners within the FORCE project.

The field location for both positions will be Cura?ao, Netherlands Antilles. Both appointments are for a 3 year period starting April 2010 (negotiable) .

Requirements: Applicants of any nationality are eligible to apply for these positions. Applicants should hold a Master or Diploma degree in marine biology (position 1) or in biology (position 2). Experience in coral reef ecology, marine botany and scientific diving will be important assets for position 1. A background in microbial ecology with an interest in biogeochemistry and experience in coral reef ecology are desirable for position 2. Diving certification and good skills in English are essential for both positions. The candidates should be prepared to make long-term stays on Cura?ao, and have good communication skills to integrate efficiently into an interdisciplinary research team.

The Special Youth Programme fellowship consists of an initial 4.5 months fellowship at UNFPA Headquarters, New York, followed by a continued fellowship of another 4.5 months in the UNFPA Office in the country of the fellow.UNFPA will recruit six young people to be Special Youth Fellows from 1 April – 31 December.

Objective
This programme is designed to give young people from developing countries opportunities to engage in policy development and programming; to help build the capacity of young people; and to sensitize both young people and UNFPA staff on partnering to address adolescent and youth issues.

During the course of the programme, fellows will:

• Attend and participate in UNFPA and UN events and meetings as appropriate
• Undertake research and writing assignments
• Contribute to ongoing projects and programmes
• Organize a final presentation to UNFPA HQ staff on their projects and fellowships in Headquarters
• Interact with the New York local youth community on at least one occasion
• Develop a relationship with the Regional and Country Office and provide updates on their activities during the HQ fellowship and provide updates to HQ during fellowship at Regional or Country Office

All selected candidates will be provided:

• Cost of return travel from country of origin
• Assistance with travel documents and visa requirements
• Health insurance – Housing arrangements
• Subsistence allowance (for meals and other basic needs)
• A workstation and internet access
• Opportunities to be mentored by UNFPA staff on issues of interest

Qualifications and Experience
Criteria: Candidates must have some programme experience in areas of UNFPA’s mandate. These areas include: young people’s sexual and reproductive health, reproductive rights, humanitarian response, population, gender, culture, human rights, HIV prevention, poverty reduction, and sustainable livelihoods.

Eligibility

• Aged between 20-24 years old. Applicants born before 1 January 1987 will not be considered. No exceptions.
• Residence and nationality of a developing country. Applicants from developed countries will not be considered for this programme, but are invited to apply for UNFPA’s regular internship programme.
• Established interest and dedication to development issues through previous experiences or affiliation with a youth network or NGO working on development issues
• Basic leadership and advocacy skills
• Basic understanding of issues of importance to UNFPA and what the organization stands for – English language skills (written and oral)
• Commitment to return to home country to undertake follow up work with young people

Persyaratan Umum :

• Lulus SMA/sederajat , dan akan masuk Perguruan Tinggi melalui jalur SPMB, UM, dan PMDK
• Diterima pada PTN dan jurusan yang direkomendasikan Beastudi Etos
• Persyaratan Khusus :
• Berasal dari keluarga tidak mampu
• Melampirkan surat keterangan tidak mampu dan slip gaji/surat keterangan penghasilan dari ketua RT atau DKM setempat
• Daftar Riwayat Hidup (bisa didownload dari www..lpi-dd.net)
• Mengisi dan menandatangani akad Beastudi Etos (bisa didownload dari www.lpi-dd.net )
• Fotokopi raport SMA semester 1 – 5, STTB, Kartu Keluarga, KTP, atau Kartu Pelajar
• Foto 4 x 6, 2 lembar
• Foto rumah (tampak keseluruhan, dan bagian dalam)
• Membuat tulisan tentang perjalanan kisah hidup
